Characterizing the frequencies of resonant modes is critical to a wide variety of experimental applications. In this work we demonstrate a heterodyne-enhanced sensing scheme capable of precisely measuring the frequency spacing between longitudinal modes of a 19 m optical cavity. The technique utilizes two resonant lasers to sense the differential phase accumulated between them as they propagate through the cavity by measuring their interference beatnote before their injection to the cavity and in transmission of it. With these measurements we were able to mitigate the effects of noise in our control loops in post-processing by up to a factor of 30 in the frequency range from 1 mHz to 100 Hz while suppressing injected calibration signals by over two orders of magnitude.
